Who is James Turner? James Turner just announced his new role as Creative Director of Pokemon Art and Design at The Pokemon Company International. If you're not familiar with who he is, let me change that. 🧵👇

  2. #2

Turner is no stranger to Pokemon, he's been working with the franchise since 2002 when he joined Genius Sonority. That's where he worked on Pokemon Colosseum and also designed Shadow Lugia for Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness.

In 2009 he moved to Game Freak. Since then he has had a hand in some absolute fan favorites in mainline Pokemon games.

Here are some of the Pokémon that have been designed or partially designed by him. Golurk is one of my personal favorites!

Turner has even left his mark in the TCG. He illustrated the iconic Duskull, Dusclops and Dusknoir set for Shrouded Fable, and more recently the Pikachu ex SIR from Ascended Heroes, widely known as the Pinkachu.

In 2022 he left Game Freak to co-found All Possible Futures with Jonathan Biddle. Their first game, The Plucky Squire, came out in 2024 and it is one of the most beautifully designed indie games.

  7. #7

Even after leaving Game Freak he still designed Professor Sada and Professor Turo for Scarlet and Violet, so he never fully left the world of Pokemon behind.

And now he is officially back. Congrats on the new role @JamesTurner_42! Your fingerprints are all over some of the best Pokemon designs in the franchise, and we are excited to see what comes next. 🫡
