GTA San Andreas is 20 years old and it is still more detailed than games releasing TODAY. It's still insane what Rockstar managed to pull off on the PS2 hardware. Here are 10 insane small & hidden details from San Andreas that prove it was ahead of its time. A Thread 🧵

1) You can go into debt and get hunted down by the triads If you gamble too much at the casino and lose all your money, you can actually get into the negative amounts of cash and be in debt to the casino. If you ignore your debts long enough, the triad will send its members after you to "collect" Betting quite literally 99.9% of people who played GTA:SA never knew about this!

2) Fat CJ gets special lines Fat CJ has a ton of special lines that are quite hilarious but one of the most funny ones is that you can get a unique phone call from Big Smoke letting CJ know that he should hit the gym lmfao.

3) Grove Street Members can take pictures of you You can actually ask GSF members you recruited to photograph CJ. I've been playing GTASA my whole life and only found out about this today.

4) You can shoot birds Birds in GTA San Andreas can actually be shot down, they react to your bullets and player actions such as flying through them.

5) Weather affects the environment Things such as weather and wind speed can actually affect the environments including flags. This is a 20 year old game.

6) NPCs can comment on CJ and CJ will reply NPCs can actually comment on CJ including his various states such as weight and CJ will reply to them automatically, there are a ton of these lines from tons of different NPCs and interactions.

7) Secret mission failed Cut Scenes There are many secret scenes for failling missions in GTA SA, most famously the "all you had to do was follow the damn train CJ!" scene, however here's one you probably didn't know about: If you jump out of the plane in Stowaway without a parachute, you get this cut scene:

8) CJ actually gets better at handling guns Weapon Skills aren't just stat changes They actually physically change how CJ holds various weapons from a more beginner technique evolving into a much more experienced technique with higher skill levels with all guns

9) CJ's weight affects speed/animations/fall speed CJ's weight affects so many aspects it's a bit hard to count, from his actual movement animations to NPC comments, to his actual speed of running/walking, to the actual time it takes CJ to hit the ground when jumping from a high spot. Rockstar paid an insane amount of attention to detail with this one feature alone.

10) Paramedics actually revive dead NPCs Paramedics do actually do their job in GTA SA and revive dead characters upon getting a call and reaching the dead NPC after performing some basic CPR, however they do take their job maybe a bit seriously and can run over other NPCs in the process. This detail unfortunately isn't even in the latest GTA such as GTA 5 where paramedics basically just stare at dead NPCs with no interactivity, here's hoping GTA 6 brings it back!
