Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

ThreadOut ("we", "us") turns publicly available X/Twitter threads into single readable pages. The service is anonymous — there are no accounts and no sign-in. This policy explains what data we handle when you use it, how we use that data, and the choices you have.

2. Data we collect

Submitted URLs: the thread links you paste to unroll. We keep them as part of the unrolled page they produce.

Cached thread content: the public tweets that make up an unrolled thread, fetched at your instruction and cached so pages load fast for every reader.

Technical data: server logs (IP address, browser, timestamps) used for security, abuse prevention, and debugging.

We do not collect names, email addresses, passwords, or payment details — the service has no accounts and nothing to buy.

3. How we use your data

We use this data solely to operate the service: fetching and rendering threads, caching unrolled pages, generating AI summaries, showing popular threads on the homepage, and preventing abuse.

Unrolled pages contain publicly available third-party data — the same tweets anyone can view on a public profile. We process them to compile and display the page, with attribution and a link to the original thread.

4. AI summaries

Some popular threads get an AI-generated "TL;DR" summary. Summaries are produced by an AI model from the public text of the thread and nothing else. They are labeled as AI-generated and may miss nuance or contain errors — the thread itself is always shown below the summary.

5. Cookies and analytics

There is no login, so we set no authentication cookies. In fact, we set no cookies at all.

We use Fathom Analytics to count page views. Fathom is a privacy-focused analytics service: it uses no cookies, does not fingerprint or track you across sites, and collects only aggregate data — page paths, referrers, and coarse location and device type. It never builds a profile of you, and it is fully GDPR, CCPA, and PECR compliant. We use no advertising trackers, and we do not sell your data.

6. Data retention

Unrolled pages and their cached thread content are kept while they remain published (see Content removal). Server logs are kept for up to 12 months.

7. Sharing and subprocessors

We share data only with providers needed to run ThreadOut: cloud hosting and content delivery, an upstream provider used to fetch public X/Twitter data, an AI provider used to generate summaries, and Fathom Analytics for aggregate page-view statistics. We never sell personal data.

8. Content removal

If you are the author of a thread and want its unrolled page removed, email us from the account linked in your X profile or include another proof of authorship, and we will take the page down.

9. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete personal data we hold about you — for most visitors that is limited to server logs. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. We restrict production access and review safeguards as the service evolves.

11. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country. Where data leaves the EEA or UK, transfers are protected by adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows the current version.
