This thread documents differences between the Steel Ball Run manga and its anime adaptation for Episode 2, including removed jokes, shortened scenes, altered character interactions, and changed details about the race and its participants.

Summarized by ThreadOut AI from the full thread. May miss nuance — read the thread below.

  1. #1

Scenes that have been removed or changed in Steel Ball Run anime; a thread 🧵(EPISODE 2)

  2. #2

The whole winning dispute goes a bit differently. We get more information about Gyro’s arrival in the manga. Gyro talking to Valkyrie and Johnny congratulating him for winning is anime only.

  3. #3

Joke about Soundman chugging water is removed from the anime

  4. #4

Steven Steel tells Gyro to wait so he can ask him more questions, it is not made clear in the anime. The joke about not spilling the champagne is deleted

  5. #5

The whole sheriff scene is shortened, we don’t get victims names in the anime, Steven doesn’t say anything about Lucy

  6. #6

Whole convo about wild animals gets deleted. There’s no mention of the president in the anime. Mountain Tim appears faster in the anime and it’s Slow Dancer bowing to him while Johnny explains this behavior, in the manga it is done by the sheriff

  7. #7

Mountain Tim isn’t being a creep towards Lucy in the anime

  8. #8

Mountain Tim speech about the cursed land is removed

  9. #9

    No Pocoloco chugging water

  10. #10

Some more info about how the race works, Johnny is kinda meaner to Gyro (but it might just be a translation choice), Johnny says that not only didn’t he notice MT but couldn’t even hear the sound of his horses hooves

  11. #11

In anime they say that 26 man died while in the manga it’s the 26th cavalry unspecified in number, their deaths are more morbid in manga, making them go blind beforehand

  12. #12

Some more detailed thoughts on other participants. In the anime the announcer says that multiple people start following Gyro while in the manga he’s more focused on saying that he got a follower (Johnny)

  13. #13

El Condor Pasa gets a slight design change, the words 'true love' are removed from it’s harness

  14. #14

Johnny doesn’t mention the cacti seeds in the anime, Mrs Robinsons story is changed (in the anime they make the death by cactus sound like a common thing in some villages while in the manga it’s a single occurrence, where the loser got back from the dead)

  15. #15

Mrs Robinson only mentions hearing the hum in the anime. Gyro’s 'I didn’t do the least little thing to him, but he cacti sure did’ is added together with his short convo with Johnny.

  16. #16

Mountain Tim doesn’t greet the horse in the anime

  17. #17

I think that’s all :)) please tell me if y’all find anything else and I’ll add it
