Summary

A detailed theory about the final episodes of DC's Lanterns series predicting that Hal Jordan fakes his death, becomes corrupted by fear, allies with Sinestro to create Yellow Lanterns, and serves as the final antagonist that John Stewart must defeat to prove himself worthy of the Green Lantern ring.

Summarized by ThreadOut AI from the full thread. May miss nuance — read the thread below.

Layout for the latter half of ‘LANTERNS’ - MY THEORY/POSSIBLE SPOILERS A thread 🧵

  2. #2

Episode 5: Hal goes into Rushville full force on his own, while John is in the hospital where he’s visited and ultimately saved by Zoe. I think Antaan ends up killing Macon Sr. here believing he has killed the Manhunter and Hal comes in to defeat Antaan. Hal and John confront each other back at the motel where they have a fight that John wins. John is still deemed unworthy of the ring and Hal is imprisoned by The Guardians.

Episode 6: John does something to get himself locked up back in Rushville during our present day 2026 timeline. Guy Gardner shows up to talk to him, mentioning he also met Hal in a prison, most likely after being chosen as the new Green Lantern. John finds himself in a fight with Macon Jr. and some other guys which is when Guy refers to someone sending an army to bring John down. I believe at the end of this episode Hal’s body is autopsied and a crystallized heart is found proving his death was faked.

Episode 7: Somewhere between the last episode and here, John finds Hal’s ring because this is where we get the Hal-ogram seemingly walking John through his memories. The passing of his father and the moment he brings down Sinestro (which I believe is when Hal last backed up his memories since the Hal-ogram is wearing the same outfit). Where my theory comes in, is it looks like the Hal-ogram brought John to the exact place Hal stopped Sinestro. I feel like Hal and Sinestro escaped prison together and Hal may now be on board with Sinestro’s plan as he agrees The Guardians aren’t to be trusted.

Episode 8: John has the ring, still accompanied by the Hal-ogram. Appears to be some sort of alien planet with a yellow aura. I think Hal has been completely consumed by his fear and officially joins his former mentor to establish the Yellow Lanterns. John is forced to take down HIS former mentor, a direct Parallel to what Hal went through. Sinestro forges a yellow ring and escapes, Hal and John fight once again. John defeats Hal and proves he’s worthy of the ring and becomes Green Lantern.

This layout is not air-tight. I’m also not satisfied with everything here. But I am expecting Hal to still be alive and serve as the final antagonist by the end of the season.
