I have no idea how I missed this but what on earth is going on in France?

So a few months prior to any student protests, a yound man proposed that we all protest on the 17th of October of this year since everyone kept talking about "bringing back les gilets jaunes".

For context, the gilets jaunes (neon yellow jackets) was a mouvement dating back from 2018 to 2019 where the people all rallied to protest many things which included high taxes, a big gap between classes and the resignation of our president Emanuel Macron.

Near the beginning of October, some student protests (blocus) starting appearing in the suburbs of Paris and the non-hexagonal territories. They were denouncing the shitty schooling conditions, lack of budget, lack of teachers and overall negligence of the French Government.

The mouvement took really fast with every departements in France having at least one blocus by the second week. Parents, Teachers, University Students and others have also started joining in, including Saint-Denis Mayor Bally Bakayoko (yk the one from the cool picture).

The Firemans and Farmers have also been protesting, the fireman department for the lack of budget and the farmers for the toxic pesticides that was rulled and lack of budget.

The biggest upset however was the governmental response. Not only have they refused to acknowledge the people's pleas, they have sent armed cops that use excessive use of forces on literal CHILDREN. Some student ended up MAIMED. One policeman even tried drowning a kid.

Any peaceful protest is meet with unjustified force, tear gaz bombs and other military weapons. Mind you, protesting is a RIGHT in this country. Our own president has refused to acknowledge the harm done by the CRS, instead choosing to condemn the people breaking things.

So its all been brewing until today, the 17th of October, when the originally planned protest happened. It is also the anniversary for the 1961 Massacre of Peaceful Algerian protesters by the racist parisian police and the 1806 assasination of the Haïthian Emperor Dessalines.

So any video you might see that comes out of France today is those said protests. You might see people breaking things, stealing from shops. While these things ARE happening, these images are pushed by the far right to sow dislike amongst the people and divide us.
