Hal was Sinestro's trainee Sinestro says that he trained Hal but then "fooled him", which is taken from the Emerald Dawn II comics (1991) where Sinestro was Hal's mentor who later turned into his nemesis.

Ch'p the squirrel is mentioned Hal says there are no other human Lanterns, and mentions that one of them is even a squirrel. Ch'p first appeared in Green Lantern vol. 2 #148 (1982), and is the Green Lantern of H'lven (Sector 1014).

The Guardian's alien form is seen When Lianna dissapears, you can briefly see her original Guardian form.

Manhunters having a crystal heart is new Manhunters do not have a crystal heart in the comics, however when they tried to use sleeper agents to infiltrate humans in the comic Millenium (1988), they were exposed for being imperfect at replicating human life.

John shows off impressive architectural knowledge He knows about Walt Disney's design element "Weenies", which are landmarks in Disney parks that direct the flow of people to central locations. This shows his interest in design and architecture.

Hector Hammond is mentioned Sheriff Kerry says the satellite belongs to a company owned by "Hector Hammond". In the comics, Hammond is a human villain who gained telepathic powers after being exposed to a meteor and growing a giant brain.

Hector Hammond is a decoy name In the show, the name is a red herring for engineer Hector Gutierrez, who was given alien tech by the Manhunter and opened a slaughter house using portals and lasers.

The owner of the satellites has no records before 1986 1986 is the year Abin Sur crashed and Hal got his ring. Hal says the Manhunter would have no records before 1986. The Manhunter likely created this fake record to distribute their alien tech under aliases.

Abin Sur carrying a Manhunter is a remix of the comics Hal says he thinks a Manhunter was on Abin Sur's ship in 1986. In Geoff John's Secret Origin (2008), the villain Atrocitus was on Abin Sur's ship, causing him to crash. The show changes this it seems.

The slaughterhouse has the same portals as the Guardians Hector uses the same portals to transport cows that the Guardians use to transport John to his interview.

The oath making you Green Lantern is added lore The Guardian Lianna says if John recites the oath, he will "become Green Lantern". The oath is important for recharging the ring, but reciting it doesn't automatically make you Green Lantern. The ring must choose you.

Yggardis the Living Planet is mentioned Hal tells John that he once visited "a planet with sentient tentacles". In the silver-age comics, Yggardis was a tentacled planet that fought Adam Strange. In the 80s it was revived as a living planet with cybernetic tentacles.

The ring runs on willpower When John becomes emotional and upset about the death of Hal's parents, his construct momentarily weakens. This is because the ring requires focus and willpower.
