Astra is very good at 3D modeling, and I can't wait for all of you to experience it, for now here is a little walkthrough on how I built the demo house for our launch blog post. From a Blender scene to a Unreal Engine 5 walkable experience. 🧵

I first asked for the plan, here is how it looked like. Astra designed it after I prompted how many rooms I wanted and the general look of the house. A modern, minimalistic house surrounded by calm and trees.

Here is a little timelapse of Astra making a V1 (before the plan above) in Blender. You can't see much of the process itself because what Astra like to do is use the Blender headless/CLI and write the 3D models in Python.

I then asked for a few Blender Cycles 4K render of the house. The secret is good lighting, I asked for cinematic shot at the golden hour. Astra understood that correctly and made the lighting so good it's impressive.

And now some high-quality shots in the UE5 engine. Astra wrote its own pipelines to export the scene in UE5, launched it a few times in order to test and compare the fidelity, then delivered a standalone app to me.

  6. #6

Here is a walk around the house in Unreal Engine 5. I asked Astra to record it for me but the whole app is sitting on my computer and I can walk around the house at 60 FPS in real time.

And then I did one more pass of Blender -> UE5 with the goal of making the house more lived-in, adding more props, etc., and adjusting the lighting to be better. The coffee machine is even working now!

  8. #8

And to finish for this demo I've asked for some storyboard so we can compare what the render looks in Blender and Unreal Engine. Astra did some storyboard and they look very good!

Apart from the first few prompts, Astra did everything! From putting together the skybox/cinematic lighting, the angle of the shots, the videos, etc... It's just good at understanding what's an impressive cinematic content and 3D models should be like!
