All of these are very recent stories. A thread 🧵 1/10 October 26, 2021 — Chelsea/Gregory, Michigan Single mother Mikala Vish repeatedly ran back into her burning second-story apartment to pull out her four children (ages 12, 6, 4, and 9 months). She suffered second- and third-degree burns over 60% of her body; her 6-year-old also had burns. Firefighters called it “the most heroic thing I’ve ever seen.” All four children survived.

2/10 August 26, 2021 — Calabasas, California A mother heard her 5-year-old son screaming in the front yard and rushed outside to find a 65-pound mountain lion dragging him across the lawn. She punched and struck the animal with her bare hands until it released him. The boy suffered head, neck, and torso injuries but survived in stable condition. Wildlife officers later confirmed and euthanized the lion. Officials called her “an absolute hero.”
