Summary

A deep dive into the visual effects used to create the Principal character sprite, detailing five techniques: Spherize (applied twice to face and mouth), Gaussian blur, Spherize on the hand, and finally stretch and dither operations with specific color palette requirements.

  1. #1

newer principal ive found out all of the effects which ill detail in a 🧵

  2. #2

    1. Spherize this is why his face looks so goddamm fat and blown up

  3. #3

    2. Spherize the sequel theres a second spherize effect on his mouth that makes it a longer ( u gotta make the mode vertical if u want it to be longer and not bigger)

  4. #4

    3. Gaussian blur...... 😭😭 i genuinely dont know why mystman blurred his face its STUPID and DUMB!!!! this is why his brows disappear and his face looks melted on his sprite

  5. #5

    4. spherize again AGAIN. but this time its on the hand!!!! wow!!!!!!!! idk the exact amouth or the exact selection shape but my guess is its this

  6. #6

    5. stretch and dither this is the last step for principal all u gotta do for accurate width and height is scale him by 247 x 505 and dither him by 8 colors (his bowtie is dithered separately and edited ontop of the principal later on)

  7. #7

u should also preferably dither with a custom palette containing all the principals colors pre 0.14 if u want accurate colors on him cause it wont turn out entirely correct if u generate one by 8 or 12 colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
