I wanna talk about Hia and Sua’s relationship and how I think it portrays emotional incest 🧵

  2. #2

Well first off, what is emotional incest? Typically, emotional incest is when a parent treats their child like a partner, relying on them for emotional support and giving the child the same role one would give a partner. It’s not physical or sexual however it’s still incest.

From the start we see that Hia has a habit of forcing her own fears onto Sua, telling her if she leaves she will die, we only see this one instinct but she’s so young and it’s before she leaves so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a regular occurrence.

We’re also shown that Hia seems to be Sua’s caretaker in a way. They’re raised as sisters yet their ‘mother’ is an alien who can’t form those same bonds. So I think Hia shaped Sua as a person the most

Moving away from the ALNST au, with the recent ZOMBST comic we see that Hia purposefully makes Sua feel guilty for being the blood daughter, using her own insecurities to push Sua one way or another.

I also think this panel is good to note, emotional incest is more studied in parents, mothers more than anything.

That’s all I really have to say, we only have the three comics with them two but it’s what I noticed and people seemed to view their relationship similar so I wanted to make a thread

Also considering this threads topic I feel the need to point out that emotional incest is a form of abuse, it’s something that can affect how someone views relationships for the rest of their life and it’s something they have to heal from.

This isn’t for anyone to fetishize or to twist into a darkship, however the dynamic between them is there and at least I won’t ignore it but I don’t want proshippers / darkshippers on my page or using this thread…thank you!
