My uncle is a convicted pedophile and my family is MAGA, so I unfortunately know that republicans will forgive and forget even the most heinous crimes, as long as you claim to have found “Jesus.” A thread 🧵-

When I was about 10 my father informed me that his brother, David Jones, was coming to stay with us. I thought the conversation was unusual because my dad began asking me if I knew the difference between good and bad touch. He then proceeded to point to places on my Barbie.

Dad said “if Uncle David ever touches you here (Barbie’s boobs) here (Barbie’s crotch) or here (Barbie’s butt) you need to tell me immediately.” I nodded my head, but was very confused. He then picked up Ken, and proceeded to show me where Uncle David might try to make me touch.

Pedophilia wasn’t new to my family. My grandfather on my dad’s side raped his daughters. My grandfather was raped by his dad. It was very common going back generations.

It was so common in fact that when my dad would be violent, he would often apologize by saying “at least I never raped you.” Which was true, and in his mind it was something to merit congratulations, or at least forgiveness for other abuses. At 10, however, I didn’t know this.

Around my teens my dad explained that Uncle David had gotten out of jail for touching his daughter inappropriately, but he had since found god and married a good Mormon woman named Angie. When I was 20 my dad told me that it was far worse.

Uncle David raped his daughter. Uncle David raped his sister’s when he was younger too. Uncle David even let his friends rape his daughter, and he was eventually caught when she ended up in the hospital, and was left infertile, as a child. Everyone in my family forgave him.

Except me. When he was invited to my sister’s funeral, it was asked of me that I be polite to him. The best I could do was ignore him, in an effort to not make my sister’s funeral about me. At my Dad’s funeral I also tried to ignore him, but he approached me.

He looked at me with sunken eyes. He looks like a cross between a rat given human form, and Nosferatu if he was an accountant, he said “I don’t know why you’re so cold to me but I hope you can move on. Holding on to hatred only hurts you.” He then walked away before I could stab.

To further my infuriation my mother had the gal to ask “I don’t know why your cousin and aunts never come to these events.” I replied “probably because you keep inviting their rapist.” And my mom glared at me as though I was unreasonable.

There is a weird desire to forgive terrible atrocities committed against children, when people are involved in the church, or become religious. It’s more common than any of them would like to admit, but it’s why this Epstein cover up isn’t a deal breaker for MAGA.

They still view Trump as the Christian choice because he is against abortion. Violence against children and his close ties to a convicted pedophile will never be a deal breaker for them. This was never actually about uncovering a child sex ring, because they don’t care.

They do not care about violence against women, children, minorities, people in other countries, the disabled, or the mentally ill. They only care about the unborn, and billionaires.
