Hanson began by pointing to the release of Original Sin, the new book co-authored by Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson. The book chronicles the internal Democratic scramble over Joe Biden’s declining mental state and the behind-the-scenes efforts to keep him in the 2024 race long past the point of plausibility. But for Hanson, the timing wasn’t just curious—it was damning. “We all have problems with this,” he said. “And it’s essentially Jake Tapper. It’s a coauthored book, but it’s Jake Tapper.” Tapper, he noted, isn’t just another reporter. “Jake Tapper is a CNN grandee, seven figure salary, kind of an iconic figure in this left wing media outlet.” Which made what came next, in Hanson’s view, all the more disingenuous. For four years, any mention of Biden’s cognitive decline was treated as political heresy. According to Hanson, no one was more aggressive in silencing dissent than Tapper himself. “If anybody questioned the obvious mental decline of Joe Biden, his cognitive difficulties, Jake Tapper… tore them apart,” he recalled. One example stuck out. When Laura Trump commented as early as 2020 that Biden appeared to be in decline, Tapper dismissed her remarks by suggesting she was mocking a childhood stutter—an argument Hanson described as “absolutely ridiculous.”

But it wasn’t just about what Tapper said in the past. Hanson argued that Tapper’s entire posture changed once it became politically safe—and profitable—to tell the truth. “Here is someone who promulgated the greatest cover-up in the history of the U.S. presidency,” he said. “We were told that Joe Biden was fit as the fiddle.” As media outlets finally began reporting what millions of Americans had observed for years—slurred speeches, vacant stares, meandering thoughts—Hanson noted that Tapper tried to rewrite history. But the record, he argued, is clear. “No one was more instrumental in berating—maybe Joe Scarborough—but other than he, Jake Tapper tore apart anybody who suggested that Joe Biden was as cognitive in decline as they saw with their own eyes and heard him.” Even when The Wall Street Journal published what Hanson called a “definitive story” on Biden’s deteriorating state, Tapper dismissed it as “Murdoch Fox propaganda.” The facts didn’t change. What changed, Hanson said, was Biden’s usefulness to those in power—and the media’s allegiance to him.

The real question, Hanson insisted, is why Tapper chose to speak up now. And the answer, he argued, couldn’t be more cynical. “Why did he write a book now? Well, the obvious answer is that Joe Biden has no power,” Hanson said. In the world of Washington journalism, access is everything—and power is the currency. Without it, even a sitting president becomes expendable. “These media people in Washington—they're like moths to a flame. They gravitate to power. And when you don't have power, you don't have friends.” So Tapper stayed silent when it counted. Not because the truth was unclear—but because the consequences were. “Somebody in the White House would have called up and said, ‘Tapper, no one from CNN is going to get a seat at a press conference. There's not going to be any CNN interview.’ So he backed down.” Now, as Biden’s influence fades, Tapper has shifted gears—pointing fingers at the White House while sidestepping his own role in enabling the very narrative he now critiques. “In a very cowardly fashion, now he comes out and he is blaming the White House cover-up,” Hanson said. But it wasn’t just the White House. According to Hanson, the entire media establishment participated. “The White House cover-up would have been impossible had not CNN, MSNBC, PBS, NBC, ABC, CBS all conspired with the White House staff to downplay—not just downplay—Biden's cognitive decline, but attack people.”

Hanson’s final words cut deep—not just as a critique of Tapper, but as a broader indictment of modern journalism. “And now he wants to say what? I have a little humility. I may or may not, I sort of kind of was part of the cover-up. But now the real Jake Tapper is in this book who's now telling truth to power.” Hanson was unmoved. “No—you’re telling truth to impotence.” He pointed out the obvious: Biden is no longer the powerful figure he once was. His health is failing, his approval ratings are plummeting, and his family is mired in scandal. Speaking up now doesn’t require courage. It’s a business decision. “It was hard, and would have required intellectual courage, moral fortitude to say this when he was the most powerful man in the world.” And that, Hanson argued, is exactly why Tapper failed—not just as a journalist, but as a public figure entrusted with truth. “Jake Tapper, you FAILED that test and you should pay a penalty,” he said. “CNN should vote very carefully on whether they want to retain him, because this is one of the greatest acts of duplicity, moral duplicity I've seen in my entire life.” Then Hanson turned to Tapper’s record. Russia collusion. Hunter Biden’s laptop. The Steele Dossier. The “51 intelligence officers” letter. One after another, Hanson argued, Tapper had backed falsehoods, dismissed facts, and followed the political winds. “I think in every one of those cases, you failed the test of truth,” Hanson said. “And you really did this time.
