Summary

A Twitter thread alleges that the BBC used inconsistent continuity in a documentary about Gaza, with a child character named Zakaria shown wearing different clothing and shoes across scenes presented as simultaneous, and claims the boy has ties to Hamas based on social media photos, suggesting the film was staged propaganda rather than authentic documentation.

/ Now a second child star of the BBC’s propaganda film about Gaza has been revealed to be linked to Hamas. Here he is in Hamas clothing with a gun. But wait, I can reveal more about the BBC’s use of this boy, called Zakaria, in their dodgy film... 🧵👇🏻

/ Zakaria is said by the BBC to be a child volunteer helping paramedics in Gaza. They show an elaborate sequence where we’re told he’s helping the adults at the hospital as casualties arrive from a nearby airstrike. Here he is behind the ambulance. Note how his hair is short. Watch what happens next…

/ Zakaria asks the paramedics to take him with them to the bomb site. They refuse, and hand him a water bottle to refill. “I went to a bombing site before and I want to go again” he says, grinning. But what happened to his short hair? Now it’s long and greasy, he’s wearing a dirty shirt, and black flip flops…

/ Now Zakaria turns to the camera and declares, “there are a lot of injuries”. But he’s stopped on the way for a fresh, short haircut. What’s more, his shirt is miraculously clean again, and the flip flops are gone. Now he’s wearing trainers (sneakers). Where’s the continuity guy when you need him?…

/ In a weird exchange, which frankly looks staged, they ask him to see how many are dead, so he runs to look through a vent nearby and comes back to report seeing three bodies. Then we’re back in the hospital, still with short hair, but the trainers are gone! Now he’s wearing blue Crocs. That haircut looks tidy, I must say. But wait…

/ Zakaria is outside again, helping to bring in a casualty. You can see the cameras and phones are out to film it all. But, wait a minute… his hair is long and messy again. And he’s had time to swap the crocs for the black flip flops! There’s more…

/ Next, Zakaria is outside the hospital again, but now he’s wearing a fourth pair of shoes: black sliders, not the Crocs, trainers or flip flops. And that fresh, short hair cut is back, as is the a bigger bottle of water. It has been a long day…

/ As darkness sets in, Zakaria is now done being a paramedic, and is helping journalists with their phones and WiFi. Same shirt, short hair, but now the blue Crocs are back… Until…

/ It’s time for Zakaria to go back to hospital work, this time cleaning the ambulance. But not before another change of clothes: a red tshirt this time, and short hair again. He has an extensive range of shoes for a child doing three separate jobs and living alone in the hospital CT room…

/ It is clear this entire section of the film doesn’t show the aftermath of one airstrike at all, nor even events which took place on the same day. But the film is edited deliberately to appear that way, casting doubt on the truth of any of it. These two shots are clearly not from the same time. Zakaria hs clearly been used to play a role, and act a scene which pushes a specific narrative. That’s called propaganda, or ‘fake news’. The BBC is playing us for fools…

/ We now know that Zakaria also liked (or was forced, or groomed) to pose alongside Hamas terrorists and even holding a gun. You’d think this mistreatment of children would be worth a mention in a film about their experience of life in Gaza. But it seems the BBC left that part of the story out of their film. Hamas wouldn’t want the world to see it. Nor did the BBC. How much longer will they get away with doing this with no repercussions? Was the entire film similarly staged and deceptively edited? How and why could they miss this, or did they actually know all along? More to come...
