Quick 🧵 on the Kamala Kollaspe: Earlier today, I spoke to my 66 year old grandmother from NYC. We caught up and then, about halfway through the conversation, it pivoted to politics. She asked “so you like Trump?” I was struck by her question for two reasons. 1/

First off, she asked the question in a genuine way with no judgement. I know this may sound peculiar to some, but typically older Black voters are so caught up in Democrat propaganda that it’s impossible for them to understand that young Black folks vote Republican. 2/

The second thing that caught me off guard was her response to my answer. When I told her “of course,” she curiously asked me why. We began a dialogue about why I voted for the Trump-Vance ticket (where my early voters at?!) and she listened diligently. 3/

Then came my question to her about who she would be voting for — and this shocked me. She said “Javon, I’ve been a Democrat my whole life, but I do not trust them to protect us.” She spoke about the chaos in the world, the immigration crisis, & the threat of nuclear war. 4/

She even went as far as to suggest that she would be changing her party registration from Democrat to Republican. Plus her comments about Kamala were even more scathing. 5/

My grandmother said Kamala “isn’t a serious candidate” and that she didn’t trust her to deal with cold-blooded killers like Putin and Xi Jinping. She said Kamala lacked the “strength” and “business acumen” of Trump. 6/

I just wanted to share this story because while I do believe young voters — and particularly young Black men — will be the story of this election if the trends continue, there is much to be said about older Black voters who feel disillusioned by the Kamala campaign. 7/

Granted this whole story is anecdotal, but it blew my mind. Guess only time will tell and I for one couldn’t be more excited to see Trump take home the W in 2 weeks! #MAGA #TrumpVance2024
