As I was saying, I have been in contact with Zeb’s wife the last 24 hours. Yesterday, there was a screen shot being shared with claims of kids running around Old Fort Road / Hwy 9, naked and begging for water. This was alarming. I asked for source and was told it was linked to a helicopter pilot running supplies. After asking again, I was sent a Facebook post for National Coatings and told to check with them. It was confirmed the post seeing these kids did NOT come from anyone associated with National Coating as their deliveries and rescues had not even gone this route. Since then we have been talking through their efforts and how she’s coordinating everything just from FB messages. There’s no staging area, no coordinated distribution, so they are responding on direct requests: 🧵

As I was watching the Buncombe County 10AM update woman repeatedly asking for assistance in the chat, that no one was monitoring, for an apartment complex in Swannanoa, mostly elderly that do not drive. I reached out to her directly and we came up with a plan for her to check on their needs tomorrow. After that, I’ll contact National Coatings if we can verify coordinates and what’s needed. Black Mountain stated this morning to stop bringing donations, they have so much right now. No one seems to know exactly what to do to help. Staging areas for supplies, then drop to “runners” on the ground that can take to locations that are accessible by car are greatly needed. That’s supplies, not the coordinated effort for rescue that is so greatly needed. #ncpol 🧵

His presence has grounded air support, so no civilian air operations until after the temporary flight restrictions were lifted at 4PM. As my friends on the ground advised, there has been an increase of military air traffic today but this afternoon that has decreased. 🧵
