Summary

A UCLA student challenged their professor's characterization of the Dobbs draft leak, arguing the real issue was women's reproductive rights being taken away and citing Ginni Thomas's election-related texts to Mark Meadows as evidence the Court had already lost integrity. The student reflects on educator fear of political backlash and calls on young people to speak up for democracy and vote.

THREAD: My professor at UCLA told our class that the "worst" part of the SCOTUS "story" was the fact that someone "leaked the draft opinion." I raised my hand & told her the worst part was that Women's rights are being taken away & that the person who leaked the draft is a hero.

Then she responded by saying "A hero? That individual undermined the integrity and the institution of the court." To which I responded: "The court lost its integrity when the wife of the SCOTUS justice Thomas texted Mark Meadows a plan on how to unlawfully overturn the election."

Then she said "Let's not get into that 'political gossip.'" To which I said: "It's not 'political gossip', it's a documented text from Clarence Thomas' wife ranting about a "left-wing heist", even though the election wasn't stolen. The court lost its integrity a long time ago."

May take a hit for disagreeing with her so passionately and morally, but I felt the need to speak up. I'm a student at UCLA who is disgusted by what the Republicans are doing to this country. By the way, when Republicans claim schools are "indoctrinating" students, it's a lie.

Most of the teachers I've had are afraid to take a political stance, due to the GOP's war on education. Afraid to say anything about Trump or the GOP — even after they incited a violent Insurrection. But this is not about politics. This is about Democracy, justice & human rights.

Thank you for listening to my rant. I encourage young people to always speak out. I know it may feel like your voice isn’t heard. But you have the power to change the world because you are the future. And Vote this November. Don’t sit this one out. Everything is on the line.🤟
