We've been exploring how clinical trial participants can control a powered wheelchair — with their minds. Here's how we’re doing it 🧵

SummaryNeuralink has successfully enabled clinical trial participants to control a powered wheelchair using only their thoughts through a brain-computer interface with over 1,000 electrodes implanted in the motor cortex. A machine learning algorithm decodes neural activity to translate the participant's intention to move into cursor and wheelchair commands, allowing them to navigate real-world environments independently.Jul 23, 20266 tweets♥ 7.5KNeuralink@neuralink

The dura is the brain's armor: a membrane so tough that a surgeon normally cuts through it with a scalpel. For the first time in our clinical trials, we inserted the electrode threads of our implant s...

SummaryNeuralink has successfully inserted brain implant electrode threads directly through the dura mater (brain membrane) without surgically removing it, using advanced imaging and insertion techniques. This breakthrough potentially makes the procedure safer and more scalable by eliminating one of the most delicate surgical steps, with a clinical trial participant regaining cursor control via thought within an hour of surgery.Jun 30, 20265 tweets♥ 16.2K
